How to read this chart
- Numbers on the water are depths in METERS, not feet. A large number with a small one after it means meters and tenths, so 128 is 12.8 meters, which is 42 feet. To read the chart in feet, multiply by 3.3. Click any spot and the depth is given both ways.
- Depths are measured from low water datum, so the real depth on the day is usually a little more.
- Thin grey lines joining equal depths are contours. Where they crowd together the bottom drops away quickly. The contours here fall on 5.4, 7.3 and 9.1 meters, which are the old 18, 24 and 30 foot lines.
- Buoys and lights are the small upright symbols. Click one to read its name, its light pattern and its colour.
- The chart appears at zoom 10 and closer. Zoomed further out you see the background map only, because the chart has no detail to draw at that size.
